From the land of the rising sun, Doutor Coffee Japan has finally open its 4th outlet in Malaysia and the very first outlet here in Penang. Doutor Coffee goes a long way back to the year 1980, founded by Mr. Hiromichi Toriba in a small 30sqm in Harajuku, Tokyo.
Today, Doutor Coffee is now enjoyed internationally in countries such as Taiwan, Singapore, and even in Malaysia; with 3 outlets opened at AEON Tebrau, Johor Bahru, Sunway Velocity and AEON Bukit Tinggi late last year.
I had the privilege to be there for the Grand Opening of Doutor Coffee located at the al-fresco area of Gurney Plaza recently and on overall, not only does Doutor Coffee offers a nice blend of beverages, but also a scrumptious spread of food which goes easy on your wallet. Frankly it's a steal.
Doutor Coffee is renowned for its roasted beans, which are open-flamed roasted, a method that takes alot of time and involves a labyrinthine process that yields complex, richly flavoured coffee beans. As open-flames roasting traditionally onlyallows for 5kg to 20kg of coffee to be roasted at a time, Doutor developed its own industrialised open-flame roasting equipment to achieve the results that it wanted, using larger quantities of coffee. According to Director of Doutor Nichires Holding Co. Ltd, who is also a Master Roaster, Mr, Masahiro Kanno personally goes to select the beans that Doutor uses from over 10,000 plantations from all over the world, including its very own plantation in Kona, Hawaii.
The Grand Opening Ceremony started off with a opening and welcome speech by Group Executive Chairman of Texchem Resources Bhd. Tan Sri Dato' Seri (Dr) Fumihiko Konishi.

"While the coffee market is growing all over South-East Asia, Doutor decided to open in Malaysia because they found a good partner in the Texchem Group, which owns 106 Sushi King outlets in Malaysia, so they know what to do, and we can expand easily," says Mr. Minoru Mori, the Deputy Managing Director of Doutor Malaysia.
Once the Grand Opening Ceremony was completed, it was then time to explore what Doutor Coffee has to offer.
A step into the outlet, and you will be welcomed by a nice cozy ambiance with the aroma of coffee brewing.
We had the chance to watch a coffee performance by Master Roaster Masahiro Kanno.
I doubt I could pour like how Master Roaster Mashiro Kanno poured the coffee and milk into the glass. I will make a mess instead haha :)
Doutor Coffee has quite a number of food items on their menu as well and they please the palates too.
Under the Fresh Sandwich choices, you have items like Shrimp Avocado Sandwich, Shrimp & Tuna Sandwich, Tuna Cheddar Sandwich among others.
If you love pasta, you will love the selection of pasta items made available here. One dish you must try is the Signature Spaghetti. The presentation itself was already so appealing. Chunks of chicken ham, sausage, shimeji mushroom, eggplant, tomato, spinach with spaghetti in Japanese mix sauce topped with onsen egg and sesame. Each bite into this dish brings such nice flavours of different ingredients in it. It was simply beautiful. It is a must try!
Mentai Shrimp Spaghetti
Shrimp, Shimeji mushroom, mentaiko, broccoli & spaghetti topped with mentaiko and nori.
Carbonara with Yolk & Bacon Spaghetti
Chicken ham, egg yolk with spaghetti in cream sauce, parmesan cheese, black pepper and parsley.
Seafood Tomato Sauce Spaghetti
Assorted seafood with spaghetti in pomodoro sauce topped with black pepper and parsley.
Fluffy Omu Tomato Rice
Chicken, onion in sauteed tomato rice topped with souffle omelette and celery.
This was my first time seeing this pretty interesting and unique dish. The rice was nicely coated with tomato taste while the omelette was really fluffy.
Fluffy Souffle Doria
Sauteed tomato rice topped with souffle egg, parmesan cheese and parsley.
I personally loved this. All you gotta do is take a spoon, dig in, and a nice taste mixture of the rice and tomato together with the fluffy egg just pampers the palate away. Becareful though, apart from being piping hot, it is also addictive.
The desserts back here looks so good that you would want to just gulp everything down if your tummy had that space haha..
Caramel French Toast
Soft chunks of french toast drizzled with caramel sauce tasted really good. Down with some ice cream and oh yeah heavenly yummy.
Vanilla Souffle Pancake
One of their singature mouth watering dessert offer softness on every bite. That and vanila ice cream together just makes the day right :)
Matcha Souffle Pancake
This light fluffy dessert makes you wanting more of it. Such presentable calls for more of this beautiful creation to be enjoyed.

Now off to some nicely brewed coffees and beverages. Everything looks so appealing that it was hard deciding which to settle with. Perhaps all? :)
Doutor Coffee uses Ethiopia Natural Yirgacheffe which offers incredible fruit sweetness. Pineapple and berry notes balanced out with delicate acidity. Chocolate finish and velvety body.
Doutor Coffee practices the '3 FRESH' philosophy; freshly roasted, freshly ground and freshly brewed. Doutor ensures that it provides freshly brewed coffee and fresh food inspired by Japan which is prepared upon order.

It was such a pleasure to be there to experience the delicious and delectable items on the menu of Doutor Coffee. Best part is the pricing of the items is really reasonable. Everything is less than RM 20. As I mentioned earlier. it's a major steal.
