Chinese New Year Steamboat Dinner at E&O Hotel Penang

It's that time of the year again where steamboat seems to be the much sort after meal during this period of time. That's because Chinese New Year is approaching, like really really soon. For this year around, Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang, fondly known as E&O Hotel Penang is offering diners steamboat for the eve of Chinese New Year.  The only difference would be that this year wouldn't be in set portion but instead, indulge even more as it will be a steamboat buffet.

All you have to do is pick your items, bring back to your table, place it into the steamboat pot and let it boil. Once it is boiling, you are all set for a prosperous reunion and Chinese New Year dinner with your family and friends.

But before that, not to miss out on the tossing of Yee Sang before anything goes. Each table would be receiving Yee Sang, so toss it high for that good luck in the year of the Rooster. Ong ah ! Huat ah! Heng ah!

As for the broth, you get not 1 not 2 but 3 options of broth to choose from. There is the common Chicken broth, if you prefer something spiced up a little then you may choose the Tom Yam and the last option is something fragrant, the Herbal broth.

Now let's dig into the ingredients for the steamboat. As for the Seafood items, the hotel offers quite a nice variety of premium goodies such as prawns, fish maw, sea cucumber, salmon fillet, flower crab, sea aparagus, and a whole load more of seafood items for you to enjoy.

Of course not missing out on the greens to add flavours to it. You will be pleased to find items such as tang hao, long cabbahe, local choy sum, lettuce, Chinese spinach and many more.

Apart from that, there is also a handful of mushroom types made available. Shimeji mushroom, shitake mushroom, enoki mushroom, abalone mushroom as well as noodles too. I personally love koay teow with the broth. The broth gets richer and place some koay teow in, take it out and eat it with the soup, oh heavenly good!

As for meat, there is slice beef, slice lamb, chicken meat and even slice duck. Some people love to put eggs into their steamboat.

Not forgetting, the sauce also plays an important part. There are quite a number of sauce for you to dip away. Homemade special chili sauce, coriander oyster garlic sauce, white radish spicy sauce, sweet sauce and the list goes on.

I know the steamboat variety is rather overwhelming but remember to keep some spare for the delicious and irresistible sweet treats. Bite into the delicious desserts such as egg tart, Chinese tea chiffon cake, semolina almond cake, festive cookies and assorted pastries too. There is also the red bean glutinous rice ball soup and mango pudding. Reading it makes me craving for it :)

Last but not least, fresh tropical fruit.
