Christmas and New Year's Dining at The Light Hotel Penang


The Light Hotel Penang is all set to welcome guest for this Christmas and New Year's celebration with a grand spread of bountiful lunch and dinner buffet. Diners may opt to dine at Spice Brasserie or Flavour@3, both offering a kaleidoscope of western and local cuisines. 

It is certainly good to be here again and this is my first experience at Spice Brasserie. 



Here are some of the highlights of the Christmas and New Year's menu as well as some of the usual buffet spread offered at eatery.

Shall we?

Kick starting off the meal with a wide variety of seafood at the seafood on ice section. Feast into fresh items such as crabs. mussels, scallops and tiger prawns.




There is a selection of fresh greens to go with condiments and dressings at the salad bar. A few choices of premix salad is also available together with nicely plated cold cuts.




Anyone up for some salmon?



Off to some heartwarming soup, the soup which was served that night was Seafood Treasure Soup. 


One of the must to have items during Christmas is the Roast Turkey which is served together with Apple and Raisin stuffing.


Tender slices of Turkey and stuffing, coat with some sauce and voila. It's all perfectly delicious.


Now this is something we don't usually get in the buffet spread. The Shawarma with condiments is certainly something delightful.


Now how about a nice hot serving of Penang's favourite Char Koay Teow from the wok. 


Just beside it, a variety of grilled items certainly catches the attention. You will find grilled items such as chicken, fish, mussel as well as prawns.


Time to hit the main dishes. One of the interesting sight in the buffet line is the mixture of cuisines found. You have western flavours, as well as local Chinese, Indian flavours too. You get the best of all under one roof. 

Gratinated Oyster with Cheese


Salmon Fillet with Blackcurrant Cream Sauce
This is certainly something truly unique and special. The combination of Salmon and Blackcurrant may sound odd, but it does give it a nice twist. 


Chicken Carage


Roasted Spring Chicken with Thyme Gravy



Sauteed Seabass with White Tom Yam Sauce


Wok Fried Mussels with Vietnamese Sauce


Honey Glazed Chicken Chop


Special Turkey Korma


Biryani with Cashew Nut & Raisin


The Biryani and the 2 curries below. One word, AWESOME! You get the nice fragrant flavour from the biryani and the aroma and taste of the curry, all mixed up and you would be wanting more of it.



I was indeed surprise to actually find the Chinese section to have not 1, not 2, but 5 types of dim sum items. That's quite a  handful of variety offered.


Nothing beats ending the meals with mouth-watering decadent desserts. Feast into the festive sweet treats like Christmas Pudding with Vanilla Sauce, Christmas Cake, Baked Chocolate Soufflé, Tiramisu Cake, Pear William Cake, Lemon Meringue Pie among others.



How could one resist such temptations? I know I couldn't haha.. I was just enjoying myself away.

When you are dining here, do not forget to get a cup of their much talked about teh tarik. It's not those 3-in-1 teh tarik but the real deal and it tasted really good. 


While on the 3rd floor at the semi-fine dining restaurant,  Flavour@3 offers course meal for Christmas and New Year. The elegant decor and pleasant atmosphere will certainly add to the festive merriment.
