This is my very first visit to Hotel NEO+ Penang. I was pretty much excited to see what NEO+ has to offer. For this Holy Month of Ramadhan, Hotel NEO+ Penang introduced their newest buffet dinner, Sajian Selera Nusantara.
Sajian Selera Nusantara is set to allow diners to experience the taste and flavours of traditional local kampung style delights that Penang had to offer.
"We want to be able to provide the ideal setting for families and groups to experience the local kampung style of cooking that they may miss from living in the city after being away from their hometowns," said Melvin Ooi, the General Manager of Hotel NEO+ Penang.
Set in the cozy ambiance of Lemongrass Restaurant, the unique thing about here is that they even have a high table dining. There is a section where the tables and chairs are unlike the usual tables and chairs height, this is much higher. Pretty neat!
Starting off they have the Salad and Appetizers. You can spot a selection of different ulams too at the Ulam-Ulaman section. Like the Ulam Raja, Daun Selom, Pucuk Paku, Kacang Botong which goes well with the various kinds of sauce that is ready for you to enjoy. There is the Ikan Masin, Telur Masin and quite a number of keropoks. I spotted my favourite which was the vegetable keropok. Once you start, you can't stop haha..
There is also the pre-mix local salad too. Like the Kerabu Manga ala Thai and Acar.
I was so happy to see this, the Potato Salad. Simple as it looks, but it was yummmmmmy. I just had to take more of it haha. Now as I type, I am craving for it too.
As for the soup, there is the Indonesia Soto Ayam with Condiments. Nicely flavoured broth.
And of course, the Bubur Lambuk.
Now to some delicious main spread.
Tofu in Egg Sauce
Udang Masak Lemak
Sotong Masak Kicap
Gulai Ayam Ubi Kentang
There is also a Indonesian corner, where you will find Sambal Goreng Kentang and Opor Ayam.
The grilling is done at the Action Stall which is located outside. That's where the Ikan Bakar such as Pari, Kembung, Talapia, Sardine as well as Beef and Chicken Satay is done.
The highlight of the buffet is the roasted whole lamb by Chef Faizal. Marinated in a secret blend of spices and roasted to perfection giving you tender juicy meat that goes perfectly well with black pepper and mint sauce.
Off to some local Penang favourite, there is the Laksa with condiments.
How about ending the meal with some delightful sweet treats. You will find a mix variety of local fare as well as some western fare.
But just before that, why not quench your thirst with these wonderful drinks. There is the ever popular Sirap Bandung, Lychee Assam Boi and Air Chrysanthemum Tea.
For the local fare you will find items like Pisang Goreng, Keledek Goreng, Kuih Seri Muka, Kuih Ketayap, Kuih Lapis and many more. Those kuihs are certainly the popular selections made available.
I must say it is quite rare to find Kuih Lapis Indonesia served in buffet line.
You get not 1 but 2 sweet dessert soup. 1 was the Bubur Kacang Hijau and the other was Bubur Cha Cha. My favourite was the Bubur Kacang Hijau.
How about some icy cool treats? There is the Ais Kacang/Chendol corner and ice cream too. Guess what? They even have those waffle cones ready. Suddenly I am a little kid all over again haha..
Hot coffee and tea with a touch of a button.
So if you are in town and not knowing where to break fast or where to stop for dinner, then do consider dining at Hotel NEO+ Penang.
