Relish - Uniquely Malaysian, Gurney Paragon Mall

Relish, one of the latest eatery in Gurney Paragon Mall, is the latest addition to The Chicken Rice Shop (TCRS) Group, was first introduced on August 29, 2014 in Gurney Paragon Mall in Penang. Relish is the place to be for those in search of a little blend of the old with the new in an inviting landscape of delectable flavours.

The cosy ambience features contemporary furniture and finishing accendted with Malaysian insipired vintage wall displays and antiques.

The ambiance makes dining in such a relaxing manner.

Relish offers an exciting menu of traditional Malaysian meals in a contemporary style, ranging from its signature Nyonya Nasi Ulam with Ayam Percik and Nasi Lemak with Rendang Ayam Kunyit to Nyonya Laksa and Spicy Smoked Beef Pasta to Yam cake, Penang Rojak and BBQ Chicken and Grilled Cheese Toast.

Love your toast with a savoury cheesy taste, then try the BBQ Chicken and Grilled Cheese Toast.

Penang Rojak, one of the sought after delicacy. Fresh local fruit and vegetable mix together with a special mixture of shrimp paste. Oh heavenly.

Yam Cake does not get any bettet than the ones served here. The yam cake that Relish sells is the real deal. Stuffed with loads of yam unlike the ones that you buy outside, pretty much made up of flour. Every bite is simply yam-milicious.

Come to penang and everybody talks about laksa,

The curry laksa that Relish offer has an interesting taste in overall. Usually yellow noodle is being used but Relish uses Shanghai Noodle in this dish which makes it even more interesting. If you love something more on a stronger flavour then the Curry Laksa will be your choice.

While the Nyonya Laksa is unlike your oridnary Laksa Lemak that you find. It has a nice mild flavour. Suitable especially for those who doesn't such strong flavours.

Nasi Lemak with Rendang Ayam Kunyit. Malaysia's all time favourite food, nasi lemak. Fragrant coconut rice served with tumeric sauce chicken, sambal ikan bilis, peanut and egg.

Nasi Kunyit with Curry Chicken. When I think of nasi kunyit, I tend to think of when babies turn 1 month old, and this will be the full moon gift given. The taste and the texture of the Nasi kunyit is perfect and with the curry chicken that goes with it. Awesome combination.

Nyonya Nasi Ulam with Ayam Percik, i personally like the dish. Served with keropok lekor, this is something rather unsual to be found being served here in Penang. Usually most will tend to serve some normal keropok as the side, Keropok lekor is a traditional fish cracker snack in Terrenganu.

Nyonya Fried Rice with Chicken Satay. Nyonya fried rice served along with chicken covered in loads of peanut sauce and winged bean, locally known as kacang botol.

Chicken Satay Burger. Simply unique as everything related to satay is found in this burger. From chicken meat, to cucumber, onions rings and peanuts is placed between charcoal bun. Unlike the usual western where burgers are served with fries, the Chicken Satay Burger is served with Keropok Lekor. Very local touch given to the burger.

Spicy Smoked Beef Pasta. If you love pasta especially with beef, you will pretty much love this pasta dish.

Durian, the king of fruits. If you love durian, then I am certain that you will love the Durian Pancake by Relish. Contains premium durian flesh, wrapped by a layer of crepe which is certain that will make you craving for more.

If you like something sweet, there is a selection of local desserts that you can choose from.
There is also the Durian Chendol, Bubur Cha Cha, Mango Mountain and Pulut Hitam with Tong Yuen

Nothing like having some thirst quenchers during a sunny hot day. A variety of drinks and coolers are made also available on the menu. Shown here is the Summer Sprtiz and the Strawberry Mojito. I love the unique mojito of strawberry taste.

Apart from this, there is also a comfortable selection of signature coffees including the Gula Melaka Latter, Mocha Latte and Gula Melaka Affogato as well as loose leaf teas such as Moroccan Mint Green Tea and Chamomile.

The usage of Gula Melaka is something pretty awesome. It gives it a twist.

The recent craze for affogato, I am sure that you may have not tried affogato with Gula Melaka. How interesting is that. But if you are there, you have to get 1 and try it yourself

Relish also offers Afternoon Tea for Two, served daily from 3pm to 6pm .Treat you tastebuds to tasting portions of Nasi Kunyit with Curry Chicken, Yam Cake, Chicken Toasts, Penang Rojak, Ice Shooters, and Durian Pancake accompanied with coffee or tea.

Currently Relish is having great Lunch deals. Weekday lunch specials from Mondays to Fridays 11am-3pm offers a selection of Nyonya Nasi Ulam with Ayam Percik, Hainanese Chicken Rice or Claypot Chicken Rice, Nasi Kunyit with Curry Chicken and Nyonya Laksa.

If you are looking for Malaysian food, from various parts of Malaysia then it has to be Relish as their saying goes, "Uniquely Malaysian".

Thank you Relish for hosting us.

QE II - Oktoberfest 2014

QE II recently had their Oktoberfest celebration on the 11th October 2014. With tons of fun filled activities throughout the night. It was indeed a night of pure excitement.

Despite being a wet weather, that did not dampen the Penangites' spirit of celebrating Oktoberfest. Best of all, it was being on the sea.

And this is where the party begins!

Greeted by lovely roving ladies dressed in Dirndl, a traditional dress worn in Germany.

These people are definitely excited for the event.

Party decorations with the Oktoberfest ambiance.

As QE II sits on the sea, it has a very night view. Such a perfect spot to sit back relax while chilling with friends.

Alexander Yuen, a talented magician all the way from Singapore was seen going round tables to perform some magic tricks. One of the tricks that I must say, pretty awesome was he used an iPad and he sticked a tap on to it and beer was flowing out from it. Ain't kidding. How cool is that?

Oompah band all the way from Germany were there to entertain the crowd.

It is time to Prost! which means cheers...like how the locals do it...yummmmmmm sengggg haha..

The guest all in a very jovial mood and ready to Prost!

First game was 'Pretzels, more pretzels'. It was fun seeing how the ladies were "fishing" the guys using Pretzels haha.. the ladies just had to hold a stick which was tied with a pretzel while the guys had to eat everything without using their hands. haha..

There were many other fun activites thereafter but I had to make a move earlier. Sad. But nevertheless I had much fun being there.

Thank you QE II  for hosting us :)

About Michael Learns To Rock

Michael Learns To Rock originated in Denmark between friends Jascha, Kåre, Mikkel and (former member) Søren in 1988.  Their melodious hit singles made them a huge success in Asia with songs like ‘The Actor’, “Sleeping Child’, ’25 Minutes’ and “That’s Why You Go Away”, just to name a few.  To the band, it has always been about the music; music that has sold over 11 million albums globally, songs that have logged more than 6 million paid / digital downloads and music videos viewed more than 50 million times on YouTube.

About ADMS

ADMS (Audiofile Digital Master Series) is a unique sound enhancement and CD pressing technology developed by well-known recording engineer, Leo Fung in 2011. While reducing errors, it increases accuracy of music signals, emphasizes presence, improves tonal balance and signal details. The transparency is more distinct and the dynamics are more energetic, bringing sound quality to a higher level. CDs produced with the ADMS technology can be played on a regular CD player with enhanced sound playback together with delicate details that are true to the original recordings.

Growing up listening to their songs and many years after, now listening to their songs again is like a childhood friend is back again. Such great feeling.

Charli XCX - Boom Clap & Upcoming Album, Sucker

Photo Courtesy of Warner Music Malaysia
If you have watched the movie "The Fault in Our Stars", you might have heard this addictive song (I was addicted to it til the repeat mode was turned ON haha)  called "Boom Clap". Just incase if you did not know, that song was by Charli XCX.

Born Charlotte Emma Aitchison or goes by her stage name Charli XCX hails from Cambridge, England with a mix parentage where her mother is an Indian and her dad is a Scottish. Her talents, writing and producing started off as early as of the age of 14 years old.

Taken from a recent interview about how her music was being discovered:

" Like many teens of the digital generation, I posted my songs online and was spotted by a music promoter. He was like: “Hey, I like your music, I run parties and this Sunday do you want to come and play at one?” I told my parents, they freaked out. They were like, “This is not good; you want to go to an illegal warehouse rave and hackney wick, this doesn’t sound appropriate.” And I was like, “Well just come!” and they were like, “Okay! Cool!” And yeah, that’s how it started."

Moving forward, at the age of 22 years old now, she has gained international success through the songs that she wrote and was also featured in it, such as "I Love It" by  Icona Pop and "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea. Back in May 2014, "Fancy" peaked at the number 1 spot on the USBillboard Hot 100.

At the very same time, her song "Boom Clap" was featured as one of the soundtracks for "The Fault in Our Stars". "Boom Clap" is the first single taken  from the upcoming album "Sucker" which is due to be release on January 26, 2015.

Following to her success, she was also nominated for "Best New Artist" & " Best Push" at this year's EMAs.

It has be confirmed that she will be the main support to Katy Perry on her 2015 "The Prismatic" European Tour. Now how cool is that!

Her new single, "Break The Rules" is now out! I guess we will have to wait until January 26 until we get all the best for Charli XCX. I know one thing for sure, I can't hardly wait :)

Til then...Boom Clap the sound of my heart , the beat goes on and on and on and on and...
